Want to know if your neighbor's house is cleaner than yours? Ever wondered how a house could float? Renovating and looking for ideas? You're in luck! October is full of house tours across DC, you'll be sure to find what you're looking for and maybe even some things you didn't know existed.

13th Annual Renovators House Tour: October 19th 10am-4pm
Need to figure out how to add some extra space where there is none to be found? Have an old home that needs some modernizing?  Come to the annual Renovators House tour and get ideas while also helping a good cause, 100% of the proceeds go to the Capitol Hill Cluster School. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as this walking tour will take you to homes on Capitol Hill with a more modern flair.  The tour prides itself in helping people find budget-friendly solutions for every day problems. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day of tour.

Bloomingdale House Tour and Art Show: October 19th 1pm-5pm (Rain date October 20th)
Excuse me Sir, would you like some art with your house? You can have both with Bloomingdale's neighborhood tour! Helping charitable causes such as scholarships for neighborhood residents and historical preservation, this biannual extravaganza is organized by the Bloomingdale Civic Association. The tour includes contemporary, traditional, and Victorian homes, something for everyone! Think your kids will be bored? Not so! As an added bonus, from 1-3pm neighborhood children's book author Tom Noll will do a reading and signing of his first book which makes recycling fun for kids. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 day of tour, and $10 for children ages 7-12.

Southwest DC Waterfront House-Boat Tour
:
October 26th, 10am-2pm
Ahoy matey! Shiver me timbers! Avast ye swarmy sea dogs....oh wait. Nevermind. We have been told there are no actual pirates on the house boats. Well darn. Tickets sell out fast, so this is a popular event even if it doesn't have pirates. Located at the Gangplank marina, the largest liveaboard community on the East Coast, the tour is self-guided and is spread across 20 liveaboard and workabord vessels. Tickets are $20, a portion of which goes to charities in Southwest DC.  Children are welcomed, pets are not, sorry Polly Parrot, no crackers for you! Public transportation (Waterfront station) is your best bet for getting here, so check Metro's website at www.wmata.com for service updates.

If this blog has taught you anything it is that people in DC love looking at other people's homes and are a rather charitable lot; both decent traits. Also, we have an alarming lack of swashbuckling pirates. Enjoy yourself. Y'arrrrr.
