Yes! That house. Among the more extrordinary and unique houses that Abbott Klar Real Estate Group has had the pleasure to represent and sell, none compare to The Roundhouse at 1001 Irving ST NE Washington DC in Beautiful Brookland.This historically significant home was carefully renovated and expanded by Ditto Residential with plans by Architect Chuong Cao of DEP Designs. 

Ditto Residential was able to modernize the round house while skillfully reusing and preserving a great deal of the original structure. The rear circumference of the house was artistically ‘pulled out’ by 12 feet to create an expansive kitchen/living area.

The first floor now boasts a stunning kitchen, palatial living room, half bath, coat closet, and laundry room. The second story has four bedrooms, including a master bedroom that extends into the new addition.

The curved addition was built with 2x8 walls and EFIS siding (Synthetic stucco). To increase the efficiency of the central air and heat systems, the basement walls were fully insulated, new custom double paned windows through out the entire house, and a combination of foal cell and high insulation value fiberglass insulation cover the walls.

The house sits on a large manicured corner lot with old growth trees and is embellished with a manicured, formal garden. Originally 33 feet in diameter with only 700 square feet of living space that required custom-built curved furniture, the Round House is now ready for 21st century living with over 2,400 square feet and a sophisticated layout.
The rear circumference of the house was artistically ‘pulled out’ by 12 feet to create an expansive kitchen/living area. The first floor now boasts a kitchen, half bath, coat closet, and laundry room. The second story has four bedrooms, including a master bedroom that extends into the new addition.


The original spiral staircase was narrow and furniture was lifted to the second floor through the upstairs windows. The new modern staircase is a standard 4-foot wide stairway lit by an innovative central skylight.  The fish-scale cedar shingles of the original were carefully preserved as the exterior paint was updated to reflect today’s style.
