Eckington
Eckington, a quiet northeast D.C. neighborhood, offers traditional rowhome living along somewhat hilly residential streets. At the same time, it keeps you closely connected to all the popular happenings in diverse areas like Shaw and NoMa.
In fact, much of the action in Eckington takes place along the neighborhood’s borders, which include North Capitol Street and Rhode Island Avenue. There, you’ll find plenty of unique restaurants and bars – all just a short walk or drive away – that you can call your own.
There’s Crisp Bar + Kitchen, where you can dine on unbelievable hot chicken sandwiches and unique cocktail creations. There’s The Pub and the People, whose outdoor patio is a great spot to enjoy some weekend beers (and some weekend people watching). There’s Old Engine 12, an old fire station that’s been transformed into a restaurant and entertainment space. And, a little further afield, you’ll find yourself in more places for shopping and dining, including Rhode Island Row (for Thai and fast-casual food) and Union Market (whose stalls highlight some of the best in D.C.’s local eateries).
One thing you’ll notice about Eckington, looking at it on a map: McKinley Technology High School is right in the neighborhood’s center. Eckington is home to several other schools, including Langley Elementary School, Emery Elementary School, the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School, and Harmony Public Charter Schools. You’ll also be able to take advantage of Eckington’s Harry Thomas Recreation Center which, in addition to staples like basketball courts and playgrounds, offers an outdoor pool for residents to cool off during sweltering summers.
With several Metro bus routes coursing through the neighborhood, and close access to the Red Line, Eckington offers the perfect balance of urban connectivity and residential calm.
