Logan Circle’s general boundaries are S Street NE, 10th Street NW, M Street NW, Massachusetts Avenue NW, and 15th Street NW.
Given the neighborhood’s high density, Logan Circle’s housing stock is primarily composed of townhomes and condominium buildings. Townhomes here are some of the most stunning you’ll find in northwest DC. Many of these impressive Victorian marvels are rich with their original historic facades and features—not to mention their pervasive sense of history. A perfect example of these: the stunning townhomes that ring the neighborhood’s eponymous circle.
On the contrary, the condominium buildings in Logan Circle represent some of the most fashionable new developments in the area. Buildings such as The Hudson and DeSoto, The Corcoran at 14th, Q14 Condos, Holm, and Radius Condominium offer all the creature comforts of modern urban living in a location that’s the very definition of hip.
IN LOGAN’S HONOR
The Logan Circle neighborhood takes its name from the circle located at the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue NW and Vermont Avenue NW and P Street NW and 13th Street NW.
In the center of the circle, looming above the picnickers and puppies and people-watchers, is the statue of John A. Logan, a Union officer and politician; the circle was renamed in his honor in 1930. (Its original name: Iowa Circle.)
During the early 20th century, the neighborhood became a haven for automobile showrooms, earning it the moniker of “Automobile Row.” But perhaps the most defining moment in Logan Circle’s history was the 1968 Washington DC riots, which destroyed much of the neighborhood.
CIRCLE CHIC
At the start of the 21st-century, Logan Circle underwent a dramatic revitalization, and in the years since the neighborhood has become synonymous with urban life in Washington DC.
Much of the area’s trendiness and popularity is owed to the bounty of shopping, dining, and entertainment options lining Logan Circle’s major thoroughfare: 14th Street NW. Here, you’ll find the opportunity to sample foods from around the world, to shop at some of the city’s chicest galleries and boutiques, and to attend live performances and concerts at venues like Studio Theatre and the nearby Black Cat.
Logan Circle is also well-known for its bar scene, with bars like Trade and Number Nine serving as frequent watering holes for the neighborhood.
Walk to several Metro stations, including Dupont Circle (Red Line) and U Street (Green and Yellow Lines). Grab a bike at numerous Capital Bikeshare stations—or catch one of the Metrobuses running along 14th and 16th Streets NW.
Enjoy award-winning French classics (and a wildly popular hamburger) at Le Diplomate. Sip beers and cocktails at watering holes like Trade, ChurchKey, and Stoney’s. Try the amazing mapo tofu at Great Wall Szechuan House.
Check out amazing, innovative theatrical productions at Studio Theatre. Spend the day around Logan Circle, either lounging on the green or playing Frisbee. Join your neighbors for exercise and well-being at Flow Yoga Center.
Make grocery shopping easier with immediate access to Whole Foods Market. Browse home furnishings at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams and antique treasures at Miss Pixie’s. Grab a bouquet of something beautiful at Flowers on 14th.
