Bike to Work DC!

  Bike to work day is May 17th 2013

 DC is becoming more and more bike friendly. To encourage more people to get off the hot Metro, out of their air conditioned cars and get healthy, Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association sponsor a Bike to work day.   Really, nearly every day can be a bike to work day.
We even got theses handy dandy bike pumps attached to some of the bike locking stations around DC.

The Metropolitian Branch Trail is part of the East Coast Greenway.  If you were so inspired you could bike from Maine to Key West.  While that might be a bit much for us, Our entire team here at Abbott Klar Real Estate Group will be biking to work and showing houses by bike on Bike to Work Day. The National Capital Region—or the “DMV,” if you must—is perennially one of the top career destinations in the country.  We live in a sea of Ph.Ds and all manner of fancy degrees—the most of any metropolitan area in these United States.  All of this blurs the fact that you could easily justify moving here because it’s a helluva good time—if you know how to leave your suit at the dry cleaners and toss your government-issued Blackberry in the Potomac (or at least shut the darn thing off for a few hours).  There are countless ways to enjoy the city and its surroundings, but here’s one of my favorites: Brunch, Boat, Play Ball!

DC Real Estate Market Update. Prices up, Inventory down.

The Spring Market is here!  The DC real estate market got a very early start this year due to historically low interest rates and very low inventory.   According to RBI  :

1. The median Sales price for Washington DC is up by 8.5% over last year.
2. The inventory of homes for sale down by 38% year of year.

Buyers report that:

1. "There is nothing on the market". Well, not really nothing, but the inventory is very, very low.  In fact we are at about two-thirds the inventory of houses as compared to last year.
2. "The competition is fierce". With inventory being low, there are lots of buyers out there all competing for the same house. 

Real Estate Agents report that:
"Only two types of houses are selling right now."

Parking Wars! What does a parking spot cost in DC?

The War on Cars that Lon Anderson –Spokesman for AAA Mid-Atlantic- has articulated seems to be getting lots of attention recently with claims that the priority for DC government is to create a more bike friendly and walkable city at the expense of car ownership.  We are all for a more walkable and biker friendly city, but the city might consider a more ballanced approach that includes cars.
