2013 was a record breaking year for Brookland. 

It all began in January with the roundest house ever sold in DC, 1001 Irving Street, listed by Abbott Klar Real Estate Group, selling for $760,000, which almost broke the record for the highest priced houses in Brookland.  Not to worry, we quickly followed that by selling 1335 Lawrence for $790,000 which broke the record for the highest priced Brookland house to ever sale!  But, alas, this record did not last for long and just a few months later we sold 3714 13th St NE for $957,983- which remains the record holder as the most expensive house ever sold in Brookland.  We are proud members of the Brookland community.  We live here and are constantly working to improve the neighborhood and shine the spotlight…

Dec 2013 Brookland Real Estate Market update.

Rbi just released their data set for Real Estate Market activity in Brookland for November 2013.  Here is the data for zipcode 20017 for single family detached houses:

That's right!  In zipcode 20018, there was a 60% increase in listings, and an amazing 77.8% in new pendings of single family detached houses in November 2013 compared with November 2012!   This means that nearly all single family houses that come on the market in November in Brookland went under contract.  Simply amazing.  Of course this level of demand for Brookland houses resulted in an increase of 7.8% in the median sold price.

For zipcode 20017, the numbers are similar.

Mary house is a volunteer organization, based in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington DC,  working directly with homeless and refugee families.  Managing 9 houses and 40 apartments for over 50 families.  Providing shelter, transitional and long term supportive housing, food, clothing and furniture.  (They are a very well run charity organization and spend only 3.7% on administrative costs)  Jake actually came to DC as an Americorp volenteer and worked with Mary House for 2 years. We continue to support their efforts through Charity Golf tornement and helping with their annual "help the Homeless" Walkathon.

Brookland is a diverse, thriving community in the Northeast quadrant of Washington, DC. It's streets are lined with trees and gorgeous Victorian beauties standing tall with relaxing wrap-around porches. Sounds pretty idylic, huh? Well, in our opinion, it is! For most of it's historical existance, Brookland was farmland owned predominantly by two families, the Queens and the Middletons. In the 1820s Jehiel Brooks (the same Jehiel Brooks from the former, beloved, Colonel Brooks' Tavern) married Ann Queen and built the Brooks Mansion located on Newton Street. (The building is currently being used by the DC government, but go down and take a walk by it sometime, it is a beautiful Greek-revival style building.)  In the 1880s, their son sold the family's home…

President James Madison wanted to create a National Brewery (we already had a national bank, so why not?) complete with a Secretary of Beer (seriously, best job ever!?). Congress said no. Brookland Real Estate Market Update November 2013
Here are some of the more interesting data points for October sales from Rbintel.com and MRIS.com for Beautiful Brookland.
For 20017 zipcode

The inventory of homes for sale in Brookland in October is significatly below the 5 year average.  This reflects the fact that the majority of homes that came on the market went under contract in October. Properly priced and presented homes in Brookland are selling fast. Median sold price increaded 49.31% year over year.  This is more a reflection of the clearing of the short sale market in Brookland.  Last year there were many more short sales closing which dragged down the enitire Brookland Market.  Now that most of those houses have been sold (purchased mostly by…
