Local, organic food is always a good idea.  It’s good for the environment, the economy, the community and our personal health and wellness.  In the DC area, we are lucky to be surrounded by an abundance of local food options—the bread, produce, meat and dairy baskets overfloweth.  There are a multitude of small, organically run farms within a 100 mile radius of DC and about seventy CSA options available in the area.  In a CSA (community supported agriculture) model, community members pay a set share at the beginning of the growing season to a local farm that then guarantees the shareholder a portion of the farm’s bounty.  CSA members receive a weekly, or bi-weekly share of produce…

The annual Easter Egg Roll is one of Washington DC’s oldest and most celebrated traditions. Every year thousands gather in the White House’s backyard for a festival that includes many family friendly activities. On Monday April 6th the First Family will host the 137th annual White House Easter Egg Roll. 35,000 are expected to attend the celebration. The event features an egg roll and hunt, live music, storytelling, cooking demonstrations and fitness zones that support The First Lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign. National Cherry Blossom Festival Kicks Off Spring in DC

This year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off on March 21st marking the first day of spring. The event runs to Sunday, April 12th, 2015. In support of the environment, this year’s festival will emphasize green spaces, trees and gardens. Over the course of the festival’s five weeks, each weekend a different family friendly event takes place to celebrate the long awaited arrival of spring.

The trees origins are actually part of DC’s rich diplomatic history. They were a gift from the Japanese to honor the friendship between the two nations. Well my friends, January has come to a close, tax season has begun, and panic has commenced. I'm not talking about panic over taxes that are almost due.  No, I am talking about the panic that Valentine's day is now only two weeks away. How could this have snuck up on me you wonder? Well it shouldn't have. There's only been dizzy, nausea-inducing displays for weeks of red hearts with crappy chocolate and cheesy cards with hearts and kisses and oddly, the characters from Frozen.
